INDIAN GOVERNMENT MINT MARKS

Note: 

Under the coinage act, of 1906 the government of India is charged with the production and supply of coins to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).

* Indian government uses four mints in the country for the production of coins.
The four types of coin manufacturing facilities are below as per headquarters:
1. Mumbai (Bombay) - Maharashtra
2. Kolkata ( Calcutta) - West Bengal
3. Hyderabad - Telangana
4. Noida - Uttar Pradesh

1. KOLKATA MINT FACILITY :

KOLKATA MINT FACILITY

        Calcutta Mint is the first coin manufacturing company in India as it was made by Britishers during their rule when we talk about the mint mark in Kolkata means, the Kolkata mint factory does not print any mark on their coin as they were the first factory set up in India by the government itself.
       We find no mark on Kolkata coins. The Kolkata mint factory was established in the year 1757 by the British government. The Kolkata mint is also known as the "royal mint".

2. MUMBAI MINT FACILITY :
MUMBAI MINT FACILITY

       Mumbai or Bombay Mint has a diamond symbol under the date of the coin or year of issue. We can also see the proof coin of Mumbai mint has a mint mark "B" or "M".
The Mumbai mint factory was established in the year 1829 by the governor of Bombay's presidency at that time.
       However, the Mumbai mint factory was transferred to the government of India on 18 May 1876 through the "federal finance integration".

3. HYDERABAD MINT FACILITY :
HYDERABAD MINT FACILITY

      Hyderabad Mint has a "star" mark and you see the date of the coin or the year of issue. The Hyderabad mints also make different mint marks which are like 
1. split diamond
2. Dot in a diamond

The Hyderabad Mint factory has two coin manufacturing units one is in "saifabad" and the other is in "cherlapally".
Hyderabad mint factories hold a very great history as they belong to the "Nizams'' of Hyderabad who established it in the year "1803", which is about 219 years ago. Since 13 January 2006, it has been completely under the control of the government of India. 

4. NOIDA MINT FACILITY :
NOIDA MINT FACILITY

    Noida mint has a "dot" symbol under the year of issue.
The most important thing about this factory is that it was founded by the Indian finance ministry.
Noida mint factory was established on 1 July 1988 which is about 33 years ago.

IMPORTANT POINTS :

1. Every mint manufacturing facility in India came under the part of security Printing and Minting Corporation of India Limited on "13 January 2006".
2. Noida is the first coin manufacturing facility to start making coins made of steel.
3. Hyderabad Mint has manufacturing faces in saifabad and cherlapally.
4. The Kolkata mint is known as the Royal mint.
